A big part of Copwatch is actually getting out into the streets and observing the police. We go out on regular patrols through different parts of Berkeley as a means to monitor police and document incidents of police misconduct. We find that our mere presence is often a deterrent to misconduct. Victims often approach Copwatchers and tell them of the change in behavior upon Copwatch's arrival to the scene. Which is why our secondary function is educating our community of their rights, so that everybody is Copwatch, and everybody know what to do when they are stopped by the police.
