VICTORY! Flock Vote Delayed!

On Tuesday, March 24, the Berkeley City Council held a meeting to vote on expanding the contract with Flock in Berkeley. Representatives from the Berkeley Police Department requested a $2 million dollar expansion of the contract while neglecting to consider the life-and-death risk that Flock poses to Berkeley’s community because of its history of sharing data with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The community mobilized so effectively that the public comment lasted almost three hours. The Berkeley City Council was unable to vote that night due to the community’s public comment. The vote was postponed until June 2nd, 2026. The City Council was unable to vote to expand the contract. This was a victory for those of us who oppose Flock.
This is not the end of our fight against mass surveillance. In the time we have before the June 2nd vote, we need to continue to push for the Council to vote to cancel its contract with Flock. When we are being surveilled by Flock, no data about us is safe from access by federal agencies. The only way to protect our data from ICE and the Trump Administration is to not collect it at all.
