BPD & Mental Health Department to Present on Crisis Response

Berkeley Copwatch demands that counselors, and not cops, should be responding to mental health emergencies. Come and let your voice be heard at the Berkeley Police Review Commission meeting on April 24, 7PM, at the South Berkeley Senior Center. The Chief of Police or a representative of the BPD and Department of Mental Health will give a presentation on their approach to dealing with mental health crisis. This is an opportunity to question them and let them know what is not working with the current system.

People need to show up to give public comment, and to demand a professional and humane response to mental health emergencies. Trained mental health professionals, not untrained police officers armed with guns, should be responding to mental health emergencies.
